There are new bivalent boosters manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna. Both versions were authorized by the FDA on August 31, 2022 and are specifically formulated to protect against the most common omicron variants, BA.4 and BA.5.

These new boosters will replace the previous Pfizer and Moderna boosters. The Hawai‘i State Department of Health has ordered the new bivalent boosters and they are being shipped directly to healthcare providers.

Please check with your healthcare provider to see if they have received the new booster. Additionally, you can find booster providers near you by visiting https://www.ourbestshothawaii.org/vaccination-locations or https://www.vaccines.gov/search. On both sites you can input your zip code and the type of booster you’re looking for to find nearby providers who have available appointments. Their phone numbers are also listed if you would like to make sure they’re offering the new bivalent booster.

Please note, the new Moderna bivalent booster is only authorized for those 18 and older whose last COVID vaccination or booster was at least two months ago. And, the new Pfizer-BioNTech booster is authorized for those 12 and older whose last COVID vaccination or booster was at least two months ago.
